Welcome to The FishFlix.com Christian Movie podcast. Every Wednesday we review a Christian film, informing you about the story, production quality, and family friendliness. Our goal is to bring you all the latest news and insights on Christian movies and recommend wholesome films for you to watch together as a family. I’m your host Noah Metzger and today we’ll be reviewing The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.
The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe released back in 2005 from Disney and Walden Media and became a very popular and well-done adaptation of the classic C.S. Lewis book. It tells the story of the Pevensie children and their remarkable journey into a magical wardrobe which leads them into another land. If you’re interested in finding out more about this film after our review, you can find it on our website at www.fishflix.com.
Complete with stunning special effects and whimsical characters, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is a magnificent portrayal of C.S. Lewis’ beloved book. Explore new worlds with the loveable characters of Lucy, Edmund, Susan, and Peter. These four siblings find the enchanting world of Narnia through a magical wardrobe while playing hide and seek at the estate of a mysterious professor. Entering into Narnia, the children discover a charming land filled with dwarfs, fauns, centaurs, and giants. Once a peaceful land, Narnia has been taken over by the evil white witch, Jada. She has turned the land into a world of eternal winter. The children meet a wise and regal lion named Aslan, who helps them lead Narnia into a spectacular battle to free the land of Witch’s powers forever.
Based on the 1950 novel from classic author C.S. Lewis, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe is a powerful and moving adaptation of the timeless story. When this film first released, I think a lot of people were astonished with its ability to stick to the original plot found in the book and still create a solid film and a wonderful world. This film is truly all about immersion. As you watch the film you become increasingly more drawn into the world and it does a magnificent job of captivating you with its story.
From the moment Lucy sets foot into the wardrobe, you know things are never going to be the same. And as the rest of the family begins to find out about the wardrobe, you begin to learn more about the world. One theme that is explored in this movie is the basic concept of good and evil. While Lucy experiences good and meets good people when she enters into Narnia, Emund on the other hand, meets the white witch and is given a taste of pure evil.
The producers of this movie adaptation were able to keep the allegorical messages intact and I think this helps to aid in maintaining the integrity of the original story. The characters are brought to life exactly as you would picture them in your head, and the creators were able to bring Narnia to life in a way true to form to the books.
Thanks to the larger budget of this film, we’re able to view a high-production fully immersive world of Narnia, and as the first of multiple Narnia movies to be released, it does an incredible job at setting up the world.
The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe is a fantastic film perfect to watch together for a family movie night. It also lends itself perfectly to discussion as your family can discuss the themes and allegories riddled throughout the film.
This film is free from language and thematic elements, and the only thing you really need to watch out for is violence. Because this takes place in a magic realm with battles and wars, there is a fair share of violence. We always like to follow the Dove Foundation which approves this movie for ages 12 and up. But as always, we recommend you watch the movie first and decide if it’s appropriate for your particular family.
