The first disc of the American Heritage Collection will provide you with the theory and evidence to support it that the American heritage has been “robbed” of its Godly heritage and that the constitution and goals set for our country by our forefathers have been manipulated and taken out of context. As a result we are suffering as a country in several different areas.
David Barton, founder of WallBuilders, talks you through the historical events and court cases that have brought this country from being a God honoring one, to a country that firmly believes in the separation of church and state. It may even be safe to say, he argues that this country singles out and rejects Christianity specifically.
Barton explains that where our country stood two decades after the constitution was written was a country that was still strongly convicted to honor God. The example given was when a man was attacking Christianity the Supreme Court felt that an attack on Christianity was an attack on our country. It was People v. Ruggles in 1811, and this man was sentenced to three months in jail and had to pay a $500 dollar fine.
As years continued and distanced us further and further from when the constitution was written, things really began to change for our country. Fast forward to the year 1963, court cases Abington v. Schempp and Murray v. Curlett where the Bible was taken out of schools, prayer was removed from schools and Biblical teaching was also removed. The reason that was given was this:
“If portions of the New Testament were read without explanation, they could be and…had been psychologically harmful to the child.”
Disc 1 of the American Heritage Collection shows the changes and consequences in our country that have occurred after the Bible was removed from our education systems and after the church was removed from the state. David Barton gives statistics and shows the viewer using graphs, that since 1962 and 1963 birth rates for unmarried girls have gone up, sexually transmitted diseases have gone up, divorce rates have gone up and academic achievements have gone down.
Disc 1 of the American Heritage Collection is a DVD that shows what our country’s forefathers, such as George Washington, John Adams, John Jay, Thomas Jefferson and others, really meant when they wrote the constitution and that they would never agree with the current separation of the church and our government. David Barton argues that we have to get back the God honoring country that we once had, which was the country that our forefathers intended us to have as well. It is a great DVD to watch as a family, in a Sunday school class, Bible study or within any community of people interested in the history of our country.
