One of the most popular films that helped to jump-start this conversation is the Left Behind series. This 3-part movie trilogy was adapted from the 12-part book series and tells the story of Rayford, Chloe, Buck, and Pastor Bruce. When millions of people across the world suddenly vanish, questions arise as to how this happened. How could millions of people simply up and vanish like this? As time goes on, Buck and Rayford begin to find a common connection between all of the people who disappeared — they were all believing Christians.
As the world descends into havoc, Rayford and Chloe Steele must decide how to handle the disappearance of heir other two family members. When they realize that both of them were Christians (and Rayford and Chloe were not) they begin to wonder if maybe their Christian family had been right all along. Meanwhile, Buck Williams, a reporter for a popular television news site, begins to unravel an incredible government conspiracy led by Nicolae Carpathia. As Carpathia begins to rise to power, Buck begins to wonder if these are all signs of the end times; and if Carpathia could very well be the Antichrist. Buck vows to get to the bottom of the mystery and discover the truth behind the one-world government and the signs of the end times.
The Left Behind series was a popular book series by Tim Lahaye and Jerry B Jenkins and saw the release of 4 movies (Including a reboot starring Nicolas Cage that was recently released), over 16 books, a children’s series, and even a video game. This series has impacted the lives of many and is well worth watching. It’s convicting message is sure to make you ask the question, “where do you want to spend eternity?”
Another movie featuring the rapture is Pure Flix’s In the Blink of an Eye. This movie stars David A.R. White and Andrea Logan White and gives a very different perspective on the rapture story. The movie follows David and Lori, a couple dealing with a lot of issues. They get invited to join a friend out on his yacht, and they hope that the time away will be good for them. However, the movie quickly turns into a Groundhog Day-style film with David repeating the same day over and over.
David must deal with his wife disappearing before his very eyes day after day, with seemingly no way out of this endlessly repeating cycle. After investigating more, he begins to discover that Lori has made a commitment to Christ, and he begins to wonder if she is being raptured to heaven every day. Eventually, he comes to the conclusion that he needs to make the same decision that she has made and accept Christ as Lord of his life. This movie is sure to inspire and convict and will hopefully encourage viewers to make a commitment to Christ.
In 2012’s The Mark, the rapture occurs and the film focuses on another Biblical element often speculated about, the mark of the beast. Chad Turner is given a biometric computer chip inside his head that functions as the Mark of the Beast. If this chip falls into the wrong hands, it could mean serious trouble as it gives great power to whoever controls it. Soon, Chad Turner is on the run and desperately trying to survive. He has one sole mission: to keep this chip from falling to the wrong hands. As all this is going on, the rapture occurs and while Chad survives, he begins to realize that the end times are just beginning. Their story is far from over.
2013 saw the release of a sequel, The Mark 2: Redemption, which takes place immediately after the events of The Mark. In this film, Chad Turner and all of the original cast must continue their battle with the world powers. The Antichrist begins to rise to power and Chad and company are determined to stop him at any and all costs.
An older film, The Moment After released in 1999 and starred Kevin Downes and David A.R. White. In this film, two FBI agents, Adam Riley and Charles Baker must investigate the disappearance of millions of people across the globe. Their goal is to interview the relatives of the disappeared and determine what the common denominator was. As they get closer to the truth, they begin to determine that there is a remarkable common element between the disappearances. If what they discover turns out to be true, it could mean a shocking revelation that could change the face of the globe!
The film was extremely well received and even created a sequel seven years later, The Moment After 2: The Awakening. In this film, Charles turns on Adam and is forced by Colonel Fredericks to hunt him down and capture him.
Finally, we have Revelation Road: The Beginning of the End. This movie follows Josh McManus, a traveling salesman with a very shady past. Having a long and gruesome history of violence, Josh happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. While travelling through a small town in West Texas, Josh stops a robbery and foils the pans of The Barbarians, a biker gang led by a cruel man by the name of Hawg. In the midst of these dramatic events, a light flashes in the sky and a series of earthquakes shakes the very core of the earth. As this transpires, everyone begins to wonder — could this be the long-awaited rapture? Josh knows he has one goal: to get home and find his family. But, he’ll have to work his way through the dangerous Barbarians gang.
Revelation Road has also created 2 sequels, Revelation Road 2: The Sea of Glass and Fire and Revelation Road 3: The Black Rider. These two films continue the saga of Josh McManus as he has to learn how to deal with a post-rapture world.
