Review:

Welcome to The FishFlix.com Christian Movie podcast. Every Wednesday we review a Christian film, informing you about the story, production quality, and family friendliness. Our goal is to bring you all the latest news and insights on Christian movies and recommend wholesome films for you to watch together as a family. I’m your host Noah Metzger and today we’ll be reviewing Darren Wilson’s Holy Ghost Reborn.

Holy Ghost Reborn is a sequel to 2014’s Holy Ghost, a film made by Darren Wilson in which he allowed the Holy Spirit to basically lead the direction of his movie. Using that same style of direction and production, Wilson sets off to continue his journey in the sequel Holy Ghost Reborn. If you’re interested in finding out more about this film after our review, you can find it on our website at www.fishflix.com.

Can the Holy Spirit direct a movie? In this emotional follow up to the popular and controversial Holy Ghost, Director Darren Wilson continues his journey around the world in his quest to make a movie that is completely led by the Holy Spirit. Although the scope of the film is indeed huge, with Darren filming in the middle of a massive protest in Rome, with a witch doctor in Africa, with prostitutes and the homeless in Brazil, amidst the ancient ruins of Greece, and even with a group of Navy SEALs, Holy Ghost Reborn is ultimately a film about one man’s search for the Spirit of God. It is a Spirit that created the Universe, but ultimately desires to reveal the truth of Jesus to all of us. Darren searches for an invisible God, and finds a tangible friend who relentlessly and passionately pursues us all.

This is an interesting film, and one that I know I’m going to be dwelling on a lot over the next several weeks. They pose a simple question in this film – what would happen if you simply allowed God to direct your movie? What does that look like? How do you even go about doing that? Wilson, through this movie and the previous film, Holy Ghost, attempts to show the Holy Spirit. But how do you film that? What does that look like?

Basically, what Wilson has done is allowed himself to go wherever he feels the spirit calling him. Through this, he travels to Rome, Brazil, Colorado, and even Africa, with incredible encounters in each place he goes to. His group witnesses an angry protest in Rome which leads to them communicating with people about Christ, and being able to pray over and even heal people.

This is definitely a more charismatic type film and one that features some incredible moments of the spirit working in people’s lives. It’s an emotional journey full of incredible stories and testimonies and it’s certain to cause quite a bit of buzz and feedback. This will definitely take you a little out of your comfort zone to show you some rather fantastic occurrences of faith. It’s up to you to draw your conclusions about this movie, what you think of their methods and approach to the Holy Spirit.

More than anything, I hope this movie sparks dialogue concerning the Holy Spirit and may even encourage some debate over traditional methods and ruts that churches can tend to fall into. It will encourage you to examine your faith and your views on the Holy Spirit and what it is.

This film is well-shot and well organized and was a truly compelling documentary. I thought it did an excellent job at pulling on emotional strings while also getting across a specific message and point.

As far as parental concerns go, it’s worth noting that this film does go into dangerous areas and show some very raw instances of the devil at work. We meet witch doctors and prostitutes, but this is something that was necessary to show how God can change even the most broken of lives. We like to follow the Dove foundation which approves this movie for ages 12 and up.

Now, we’d like to know what you think. Have you seen this movie and would like to let us know your thoughts? Maybe you’d like us to review a certain movie, or have a question or comment.
